Contempt of Court

The Story of a Lynching and Two African-American Lawyers who forever changed the American justice system.

Mark tells the true story of Ed Johnson, a young black man falsely accused of raping a white woman, horribly railroaded through the Tennessee criminal justice system, found guilty and sentenced to death in three weeks. Two extraordinarily brave black attorneys step forward to file the first ever habeas corpus petition in a state criminal case. They become the first lawyers of color to take a case as lead counsel to the Supreme Court of the United States. As Chief Judge Carl Stewart of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit said, β€œIt is the first time that I have cried and also been inspired at a CLE ethics program.” This presentation can be done as a 50-minute lunch or dinner event, or as a one-hour, two-hour or three-hour CLE program.
